Medieval Capitalism
As forms of economic systems, capitalism clearly has some advantages over feudalism. At the very least, capitalism’s marketing material is better—feudalism called everyone ‘peasants’ and made no bones about it. Plus, all that lumpy porridge. Capitalism’s marketing jargon—free enterprise, individualism, freedom of choice—does a much better job of masking the two-class system. Plus it’s given us things like Taco Bell, Xbox, and D&D.
The idea of a medieval fantasy that borrows heavily from 21st century Western-style capitalism is, to quote Boromir, a gift. We must use the weapon of the enemy, to mock and ridicule something without feelings.
There definitely is something horrific about medieval capitalism. Today we’re somewhat protected from gross corporate greed by laws. More so by the looming threat of Public Opinion, which can still be marshaled to force corporations to not be buttholes. Sometimes. Even then, it’s only an act of self-preservation, like people fleeing from Godzilla.

Imagine a corporation without the need to pretend to feel shame. It’s truly monstrous. Now provide a balding, elven middle manager as its face, someone whose enthusiasm for the company is only surpassed by his inappropriateness.
This is where we are.
